Lady P gave me a call on a previous vintage studio photo shoot i did, wanting to do something different for her husband for Valentine’s Day this year, and what a fabulously romantic idea, to print a vintage calendar for your hubby to look at the rest of the year! We had a lot of fun in studio, and hubby was apprarently delighted with the resulting photo calendar. Who wouldn’t be?

This particular trip was to the 2013 Cool Inc. Tattoo convention, where Marisa and Chelsea from Tattoolya set up their temporary and traveling tattoo studio in their awesome little vintage caravan called ‘Peanut’!
‘Our cute, vintage, caravan is solar powered and designed for a hygienic tattoo environment, taking the dodgy right out and replacing it with a whole lot of charm, and a whole lot of fun!
Fueled by some good ‘ol fashioned music, a zest for adventure and 2 girl tattoo artists, aswell as our pup named Savage!
Many Squirms and many laughs and the occasional whiskey from tea cups for glass!! ‘

This studio shoot was in celebration of Lady N’s 30th birthday. For this occasion she requested to do something she said always dreams about. ‘I want to be Wonder Woman!’ On top of that, she wanted to do a few vintage / pinup styled photos.
This was an incredibly fun shoot, a big challenge and probably the shoot that has taken me the longest time to edit… EVER, but it was a more unusual and creative shoot than the usual things that come my way, so i took my time with the creative editing and went with it.

My dear friend Surietha is one of my favourite people to do a photo shoot for. She is always creative and open minded, and keen on something a little different and involving a little adventure. This was Surietha’s maternity shoot – she asked for a pinup style shoot, after seeing one of my recent pinup photo sessions we did at Pretville. We decided to do this shoot a little more local and close to home, so she wouldn’t have to travel as far as Harties so late in her pregnancy. She had her makeup done, and off we all went to an old diner in Muldersdrift for a bit of maternity pinup fun. 🙂
Special thanks to Bronwyn Stewart for assisting with this shoot, and Iliana Kirilova for makeup!

Fallen Hero’s hosted a wonderful, ladies only, event to celebrate Women’s Day, a national holiday in South Africa. Here’s a little history about Women’s day; On 9 August 1956, more than 50,000 women staged a march on the Union Buildings in Pretoria to protest against the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act (commonly known as the pass laws) of 1950. They left bundles of petitions containing more than 100 000 signatures at prime minister J.G. Strijdom’s office doors. Outside they stood silently for 30 minutes, many with their children on their backs. The women sang a protest song that was composed in honour of the occasion: Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo!(Now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock.). In the 54 years since, the phrase (or its latest incarnation: “you strike a woman, you strike a rock“) has come to represent women’s courage and strength in South Africa.
The Women’s Day Pin-Up Bazaar was a really awesome event and was held at Fallen Heroes Tattoo studio in Parkhurst. The attendance was amazing, and all the ladies went out of their way to dress up proper Pin-Up style, they all looked gorgeous. Heart & Soul Photography, which will be launching Bella Dea Boudoir & Pin-Up photography brand very soon, was there with a themed photo booth set-up, complete with a funky rockabilly, African styled backdrop and loads of props. The ladies really had a ball playing dress up and practicing their best Pin-Up poses, which were picture perfect. It was a really fantastic event and well done to The Fallen Hero’s team for putting it all together, until next year, keep rocking ladies.

In Bettie Flash’s own words:
It seems like every few months a new craze emerges, first Vampires were the hot topic and now Zombies have taken centre stage. I like being a little unusual and decided on a whim that I wanted to incorporate the undead and Pin Up to create a Pretty Undead Pin Up Shoot; fortunately I have an amazing photographer who was willing to be a part of my macabre idea!
With quite literally a day’s notice, Bronwyn from Bella Dea was on call help me achieve my latest must have photoshoot. Looking for a suitable venue in the middle of winter with little time to plan to boot made it a challenging task to say the least, but we did it! We shot the photo’s at West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg, searching for the older sections of the cemetery and chasing the sun to get a natural glow (and this is something that a photographer would know more about).
With make shift blood to add the gore and cleverly applied make up, we were off! I think that I managed to pull off what I would consider a freshly turned walker, possibly searching for her lost love – or a living being to eat – and thankfully I had the ever valued guidance of Bron’s eye to pose me.
There is something quite surreal about being in a quiet cemetery in the late afternoon, you can hear the hum of rush hour traffic in the distance but you’re surprisingly at peace. Even though we spent the latter part of the shoot chasing the sun, we still managed to get some amazing shots! I didn’t even know that it was possible to make a zombie look as good as Bron did!
So again, I have to say a big thank you to Bronwyn for putting up with my bizarre requests and being so willing to jump in to help them come to life. It was something to cross off of the ol’ Bucket List, but that doesn’t stop my mind from working overtime to come up with a new, wild photoshoot concept that I will definitely ask Bron to help with.

I recently had the absolute pleasure of photographing three very gorgeous woman, Pin-Up style, in a most stunning lingerie boutique situated on 44 Stanley in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was a day of stunning bodies, all different shapes and just celebrating their beauty as women. These are my favourite type of shoots, for many reasons.
I asked Cashe ( Bettie Flash) to write a little insert from her point of view, on what this Pin-Up photo shoot meant to her, what follows are her words:
Who said three’s a crowd?
I often Google pictures of the gorgeous Pin-Up and burlesque ladies from way back when, and more often than not there are very few where the gorgeous ladies are together.
So when I was asked to participate in a trio pin up shoot, I jumped (very gracefully naturally) at the chance. It was a lot easier to agree to a trio shoot when the fabulous burlesque performer; Oh Miss Oh wanted in on the action as well. As always; the incredible Bronwyn Stewart was on hand to work her photographic magic on three very different ladies crammed into one awesome lingerie shop in Milpark.
The setting was perfect, we were using Mechant & Gentil as a location, and there is really something about being surrounded by stunning lingerie that brings out the sensual goddess within, hair and make-up done by a professional also helps!
When you are being photographed with two other gorgeous women; two women you haven’t actually met in person before; there is a certain nervousness that takes over that you cannot let show on the photos. Fortunately Bronwyn Stewart is a master at helping her models feel at ease, it is very easy to feel so comfortable wearing very little when Bronwyn is behind a camera; she has a way with words, poses and energy that allows a girl with curves to feel like the sexiest creature in the room. And there were three of us.
With myself, Miss Oh and Bronwyn Ruth Williams made up and ready for our shoot, it was surely a challenge to get all of us positioned and posed beautifully, while taking into consideration that each of us have very different body types and personalities. Bronwyn S just has a way of bringing our personalities out without much effort either; all while having the artistic vision to capture some incredible shots of the three of us!
I absolutely adore the Pin-Up pictures of the three of us; the edgy and beautiful way that they were captured shows a group of ladies who have known each other for years; even though it was only for a few hours.
Bronwyn S allowed us to bring our ideas to the table and worked with what we had envisioned for the shoot in ways that neither of us could have imagined. It made me wonder that if three almost strangers could produce photos of this nature, I could only imagine what a group of friends could produce.
I am no professional model; I am definitely not a skinny girl and I am not the type of girl who will flaunt my mom curves, thanks to Bronwyn S though; I am very proud of my body and of any beautiful woman who is willing to flaunt her best side. I have said it before and will say it again, I would definitely recommend a pin up shoot with Bronwyn Stewart – she is a lady who nails pin up poses to help you get into them; she knows exactly how to direct you into the most flattering positions and is more patient with her clients than most people I know.
So I would like to thank Bronwyn once again for helping me realize that I am more than just a mom; more than just a girlfriend or just an employee – I am a woman and a pretty sassy one at that and without Bronwyn I wouldn’t have seen that at all!

I must say I just love Pin-Up sessions and I especially love it when my client is super, super excited to do her shoot, we planned her shoot for weeks from choosing the venue to getting ideas for Pin-Up style hair and make-up, to wardrobe, it was rather epic but so much fun, I rather enjoy the planning of a photo shoot, it’s loads of fun, sometimes frustrating but mostly it’s fun. I must say I was rather nervous as the time approached to do Danielle’s shoot, I just wanted it to be perfect and I had so many ideas in my head ads far a posing was concerned, I think I flooded my mind a bit.
This Pin-Up session was initially, a wedding gift for her hubby to be, but I think it ended up being more a gift for Danielle, she loved every second of her session, from the minute she stepped into the room and started getting her hair and make-up done to the actual Photo shoot. When we were done a few hours later, Danielle said that she would be spreading the word and convincing every woman that she knows to book a boudoir/ Pin Up session, as this was for her one of the most empowering experiences she has ever had. At one stage during our shoot, she blurted out ” Damn I’m one sexy woman and I’m feeling it right now” and we both giggled,
This is why I love what I do, and why I love Boudoir and Pin-Up photography, it’s more than just pretty photos it’s a wonderfully empowering experience.
