In Bettie Flash’s own words:
It seems like every few months a new craze emerges, first Vampires were the hot topic and now Zombies have taken centre stage. I like being a little unusual and decided on a whim that I wanted to incorporate the undead and Pin Up to create a Pretty Undead Pin Up Shoot; fortunately I have an amazing photographer who was willing to be a part of my macabre idea!
With quite literally a day’s notice, Bronwyn from Bella Dea was on call help me achieve my latest must have photoshoot. Looking for a suitable venue in the middle of winter with little time to plan to boot made it a challenging task to say the least, but we did it! We shot the photo’s at West Park Cemetery in Johannesburg, searching for the older sections of the cemetery and chasing the sun to get a natural glow (and this is something that a photographer would know more about).
With make shift blood to add the gore and cleverly applied make up, we were off! I think that I managed to pull off what I would consider a freshly turned walker, possibly searching for her lost love – or a living being to eat – and thankfully I had the ever valued guidance of Bron’s eye to pose me.
There is something quite surreal about being in a quiet cemetery in the late afternoon, you can hear the hum of rush hour traffic in the distance but you’re surprisingly at peace. Even though we spent the latter part of the shoot chasing the sun, we still managed to get some amazing shots! I didn’t even know that it was possible to make a zombie look as good as Bron did!
So again, I have to say a big thank you to Bronwyn for putting up with my bizarre requests and being so willing to jump in to help them come to life. It was something to cross off of the ol’ Bucket List, but that doesn’t stop my mind from working overtime to come up with a new, wild photoshoot concept that I will definitely ask Bron to help with.
